Approach and anchoring

Enter between the sand spits that shift with each winter storm; a recent SHOM survey or local knowledge is essential and a low-water reconnaissance wise before committing. In season the entrance channel is buoyed from the west. Shallow bar, best near high water. Much of the bay dries and boats beach on the sand, so keep enough water over the tide and watch the level change from tide to tide. Shelter from N through E and W to NW, open to the SE swell up the estuary. A 5-knot limit applies in the bay.

Practical

No mooring infrastructure, anchor only. La Palmyre harbour sits 1.1 NM east inside the bay. La Tremblade marina is 5.9 NM NE up the Seudre for full services, fuel and water.

Ashore

Forêt de la Coubre pine forest borders the bay; walking trails link to the Phare de la Coubre at 2 km. Beach of Bonne Anse stretches along the south shore. Zoo de la Palmyre lies 1.5 km east of the inner anchorage.
