Guide
Approach and anchoring
Enter on a rising tide, the channel dries to mud at low water springs. Currents run up to 4 knots on mid-tide in the main Gulf entrance at Port-Navalo, inside the Marle they slacken. Shelter is all-round thanks to the surrounding wooded banks. The Navix passenger boats running by day in season set up a marked wash, and the mooring is calm again at night. Port Anna lies 0.1 nm south, Conleau 0.2 nm north-west for alternative berthing.
Practical
Mooring on buoy, no services on the water. Fuel, water and chandlery at Port Anna nearby. Vannes city centre is about 3 km by road from Conleau or by dinghy up the channel at high water.
Ashore
Conleau peninsula has a tidal seawater swimming pool, a coastal path and a restaurant and bar at the water's edge. Vannes old town, encircled by 13th to 17th century ramparts, sits 3 km north, market on Wednesday and Saturday mornings at Place des Lices.
History
Vannes was the capital of the Veneti, the Celtic seafaring people defeated by Caesar in 56 BC in a naval battle fought inside the Gulf of Morbihan.
