Approach and anchoring

Approach from the west in the Caribbean Sea. Sheltered from N, NE and E trade winds, fully open to the W and SW swells. Sound the way in, as rocky patches break up the sandy bottom, and set the hook in a clear sand patch where holding is good. Watch for fishing nets and pots laid close to or within the anchoring area, and for swimmers training along the shore in the morning. No lights, daytime approach only.

Practical

Forain anchorage with no infrastructure. Drop in sand patches clear of rocks, typical depths 4 to 8 m. No shop or bakery within easy reach. Nearest services at Fort-de-France marina and fuel berths roughly 5 nm to the north.

Ashore

A small beach gives an easy dinghy landing, with a couple of bars and restaurants close by. A wreck on the north side of the cove makes a good dive. Coastal walking on the tracks above the anse reaches the hamlets of Anse Mitan and Anse a l'Ane, with a ferry link to Fort-de-France from the Anse Mitan pontoon about 2 km by road.
