Guide
Approach and anchoring
Access via the canalised Oise through the Compiègne reach. Keep the marked channel and give way to commercial traffic. Current follows the downstream flow towards Pontoise. Depths are uneven, shoaling to around 1.3 m in places off the mooring, with more water closer to the bridge.
Practical
No services at the mooring itself, but a diesel berth and a chandlery sit on the opposite bank. Compiegne Quay lies 0.3 NM SW and Compiegne Yacht Club 0.6 NM NE, both offering pontoon moorings.
Ashore
Compiegne town centre within 1 km of the quay, with bakery, shops and SNCF station. Chateau de Compiegne and its park, former imperial residence of Napoleon III, stand 1.2 km from the river. Foret de Compiegne, 14 400 hectares, reaches the eastern edge of town with marked trails.
History
Compiegne was the site of the 1918 Armistice signed in a railway carriage in the Rethondes clearing, 6 km east of the river. The Clairiere de l'Armistice museum preserves a replica of the carriage.
