Approach and anchoring

Halt situated upstream of the écluse des Buttes on the canal du Loing. The canal runs for 50 km with 19 locks and a total fall of 35 m down to the Seine at Saint-Mammès. Draught 1.80 m.

Practical

Pontoon for eight boats with free water and 240 V electricity but no toilets. Town centre within 5 minutes on foot, with a bakery and market; a large Carrefour is about 10 minutes away over the bridge. SNCF station Nemours-Saint-Pierre on the Paris-Gare de Lyon to Montargis line, 500 m away.

Ashore

Château de Nemours, one of the oldest surviving fortified town castles of Île-de-France, houses a museum since 1903 on the left bank of the Loing, 300 m from the pontoon. A riverside bar stands by the old mill near the quay. Towpath of the canal du Loing open to walkers and cyclists along the whole canal. Forêt de Fontainebleau 10 km north.

History

The town of Nemours, 13,100 inhabitants, grew up around a ford on the Loing. Its castle was rebuilt as a residential palace in the 15th century by Jacques d'Armagnac, Duke of Nemours.
