Canal halt on the Canal du Centre in Saône-et-Loire, at the foot of the town of Paray-le-Monial.

Approach and anchoring

Fluvial access via the Canal du Centre, between Digoin to the west and Montceau-les-Mines to the east. Freycinet gauge, lock operation by VNF. Concrete quay on the right bank, downstream of the road bridge, open and exposed in strong winds.

Practical

Pontoon with water and electricity, though these may be switched off outside the season and it is unclear whether they are charged. Fuel is available at stations across the river; the one nearest the bridge is dearer, with cheaper fuel about 250 metres further along or at the Netto supermarket. Town centre within 500 metres, bakery, supermarket and restaurants. Railway station on the Paris to Lyon via Clermont line, 700 metres from the halt.

Ashore

A large public park adjoins the halt. Basilique du Sacré-Coeur of Paray-le-Monial, Romanesque church built in the 11th and 12th centuries, 400 metres from the quay. Major Catholic pilgrimage site linked to Marguerite-Marie Alacoque, canonised in 1920. EuroVelo 6 cycling route along the canal.
