Approach and anchoring

Entry from the estuary channel on the flood only, accessible from about half tide for a 1.5 m draught. Fast tidal streams run in the Gironde, so plan arrival at slack water or with the flood; wind against tide makes the mooring lively. The visitor pontoon is small, room for two or three boats, and dries onto soft mud. Watch for the excursion boat that works the berth. Shelter from NE and E winds off the bank.

Practical

Shore power at the pontoon, with a slipway alongside. The harbour master is on hand on Monday and Friday mornings only. A restaurant and bar open in season, and the toilets are clean though the showers run cold. Port des Callonges lies 2.8 nm to the south and La Marechale 2.9 nm to the SW as alternative stops.

Ashore

Maison de la Nature de Vitrezay next to the pontoon, with walking trails through the estuary marshes. Observation point over the Gironde mudflats and migratory birds. Village of Saint-Sorlin-de-Conac 3 km inland.
