Marina of 600 berths on the Frontignan lido, between the Étang d'Ingril and the Gulf of Lion, in the Hérault.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Entrance oriented SSW between two jetties, the approach straightforward from open sea but the entrance shoals and a current sets across it, so line it up with care and expect it to feel awkward when a big easterly swell is running. Recent dredging has eased the depth and boats of 2.2 m draught report no trouble, with 2.5 m the stated maximum. Call the office on VHF 9 before arrival and staff put out in a boat to guide arrivals in and take their lines on the sheltered reception quay. Fuel berth at the marina.
Practical
600 berths run by SPL Occitanie Ports, with diesel and petrol, water and electricity on the pontoons, and recently renewed shower blocks kept clean under round-the-clock security. Around 50 euros a night in August. Restaurants line the quays but many close on Wednesdays and out of season, and there is no grocery or bakery at the port itself, the nearest shops about 1.5 km off and the town some 4 km, though a bread van sounds its horn near the harbour. The MEF chandlery sits beside the port with a slipway for launching, and a laundrette is 2 to 3 km away by bus 16 to the Tahiti stop. Sandy beach on either side of the entrance.
Ashore
Frontignan AOC muscat vineyards within 3 km inland, cellars open for tasting on the route du muscat. Old town and Saint-Paul collegiate church 2.5 km north. Coastal cycle path to Sète 6 km west.
History
Frontignan gave its name to the muscat wine cited by Rabelais and Thomas Jefferson, produced under AOC status since 1936.
