Bay on the north-west coast of St. John within Virgin Islands National Park, off the former Caneel Bay resort, about 2 km north-east of Cruz Bay.

Approach and anchoring

Sheltered from north-east round to south-east, open from south-west round to north, so a winter northerly swell can roll in. Sand bottom. Anchoring is prohibited: the nearest designated anchorage is off Lind Point, between Caneel Bay and Cruz Bay.

Practical

33 NPS moorings, white with blue stripes, for boats up to 60 feet, about 18 metres. Overnight use from 5 pm to 7 am costs USD 26 a night, paid before the night at the floating fee station in the bay, with no more than 7 consecutive nights in one bay and 30 nights a year. Blue moorings with red stripes are kept for the resort concession's boats.

Ashore

The Caneel Bay resort has been closed since the 2017 hurricanes. In May 2026 the NPS opened a 60-year lease process for about 150 acres to redevelop it, and public access to its beaches is still being argued over.
