Guide
Approach and anchoring
Approach from the south in settled weather. The calanque is narrow with room for only about two boats, deep at 10 to 12 metres, so most drop mid-cove and take a line ashore. Seabed is posidonia, anchoring on the meadow is regulated by the park authority, use the ecological buoys where installed and avoid dropping on the seagrass; the water can be murky, so aim for a clear patch or use a seabed app. Shelter from W through SW to S, exposed to E winds and to any SE swell which enters directly.
Practical
No services. Nearest harbours are Port des Goudes 2.4 NM NW and Port de Morgiou 2.9 NM NE, both small drying basins with limited visitor capacity.
Ashore
Calanque lies within the core area of the Parc national des Calanques, created in 2012. The GR 98-51 coastal path passes above the cove, linking Callelongue 2 km W to Morgiou 4 km NE. No road access, landing by tender on a small pebble beach. A small underwater cave sits on one side of the entrance, with good snorkelling among fish along the rocks.
History
The Marseilleveyre coast has been quarried since antiquity for the pink Cassis limestone shipped by sea to Marseille. Nearby Cosquer cave, 6 km W at Cap Morgiou, contains Palaeolithic paintings dated to 27 000 years before present, its entrance lies 37 m underwater.
