Guide
Approach and anchoring
Sand bottom. Sheltered from W through S to E, open to the north. The shallow entrance runs between two shoals and was closed by floating barriers in 2015. The bay lies on the edge of a Coast Guard safety zone for ordnance clearance: anchoring, dredging or trawling there needs the approval of the Captain of the Port San Juan, and no vessel may enter during clearance operations.
Practical
No services. The shore belongs to the Vieques National Wildlife Refuge. Much of the eastern refuge is still closed because of unexploded ordnance, and closed areas may not be visited by land or sea, so check which beaches are open before landing. Check Coast Guard Sector San Juan notices to mariners before coming in.
