Guide
Approach and anchoring
Weed bottom. Sheltered from W through N to NE, open to the south. Anchor outside: boats with petrol or diesel engines are not allowed into the bay.
Practical
Swimming in the bay is prohibited. Night visits are only with DRNA-licensed tour operators, by kayak or electric boat, and tours stop around each full moon. Sunscreen and DEET repellent harm the dinoflagellates.
Story
The glow comes from Pyrodinium bahamense, which flashes blue-green for a tenth of a second when disturbed. The narrow mouth keeps the organisms in the bay and the mangroves feed them.
