Approach and anchoring
Approach from the main channel of the Goulet de Brest, then turn south into the anse. The bottom is deep, about 12 to 13 metres at high water neaps, sand with rocky patches, so the anchor may not set first time. One visitor mooring buoy lies inshore, marked 118 and limited to 6 tonnes; bring a line. Protection from NW through N, NE, W and E, but Atlantic swell rolls in even in light north-westerlies and the anse is open to the south.
Practical
The single visitor buoy is free for a short stay; check it is open with the local yacht club before taking it. No facilities on the water. Land the dinghy on the beach, not on the slipway, which is gated and needs a card. An organic shop is about 10 minutes on foot and a bus runs into Brest and its supermarkets. Nearest shelter at Brest-Marina du Château, 2.7 NM to the NE, for water, fuel and provisions.
