Guide
Approach and anchoring
Approach from the W through the Chenal du Four or from the goulet de Brest to the E. Six numbered visitor buoys lie beside the access channel between Plage de Bertheaume and Plage des Curés, taking boats up to about 10 m, with plenty of room to anchor alongside on sand of good holding. Sheltered from the NW only; exposed to W, SW and S winds, and to the strong tidal streams of the goulet which reach 4 knots on springs, so the anchorage can roll even with little wind. A handy place to wait for a fair tide through the Chenal du Four.
Practical
The visitor buoys can be reserved on 02 98 38 03 81. Public toilets on the beach; no other services. Le Conquet 3.4 NM to the NW for berths, water and shops. Camaret-sur-Mer 5.5 NM to the SE for full marina services.
Ashore
Landing is easy by a sloping slipway, with a floating pontoon added on the beach in summer, below the fort at Bertheaume. Sentier côtier GR 34 runs along the cliffs of the plateau du Léon above the anse. Pointe Saint-Mathieu and its 19th century lighthouse, standing on the ruins of a Benedictine abbey founded in the 6th century, is about 4 km to the W.
