Approach and anchoring

Enter the Adour between the north and south jetties of the Bayonne bar, then keep to the north bank. The bar shoals and breaks heavily in westerly swell above 2 m, crossing advised near high water slack only. Currents in the river reach 3 to 4 knots on the ebb. VHF 9 for the marina, VHF 12 for Bayonne port control. Max draught 2 m in the basin.

Practical

425 berths with water and electricity, visitor berths on E pontoon by the fuel station. Book by phone, as the VHF and emails often go unanswered. The staff speak English. Showers run on a 2 euro token from the office, and a night is around 41 euros for a 12 metre boat. A cement works faces the marina across the Adour, and a northerly can blow its dust over the berths, so close the hatches. Port Adhoc Bayonne-Anglet, with boatyard and lifting gear, lies 0.5 NM east; Anglet Montbrun 1.7 NM SE upstream.

Ashore

Plage des Cavaliers and Chambre d'Amour beaches on the Atlantic front are a 10 minute walk west. A bus stop in front of the marina and tram line T1 reach Bayonne and Biarritz in about 30 minutes; the river shuttle to Bayonne no longer runs. Surf schools operate along the Anglet seafront from April to October.
