Lake Geneva, French shore: Yvoire to Meillerie

15 places · Lake Geneva, French shore

France holds 58 km of Lake Geneva's 200 km of shoreline, all of it in Haute-Savoie, and the border runs down the middle of the lake. West to east: Nernier, Yvoire and its medieval village, the Excenevex beach, Sciez, Thonon with the Rives and Ripaille harbours, Amphion, Évian and its two harbours, then Lugrin and Meillerie under its cliffs. The north-easterly bise can last three to ten days, and the summer south-westerly blows 35 to 70 km/h. The lake's storm lights follow the Swiss code: 40 flashes a minute for caution, 90 for a gale.
