Central California: Half Moon Bay to Port San Luis
15 places · Central California
California's most exposed coast, with shelter every 20 to 40 miles and then more than 70 miles without a harbour along Big Sur. Pillar Point at Half Moon Bay and its anchorage behind the breakwaters, Santa Cruz, whose entrance shoals from November to May, Moss Landing at the head of the bay, Monterey, well sheltered from the north-west, and Stillwater Cove below Pebble Beach. Further south, San Simeon under Hearst Castle, Morro Bay, where a warning light flashes once seas on the bar top four feet, then Port San Luis, open to the south-east. Frequent fog from July to September.
