Private yacht club on Alviso Slough at the southern tip of San Francisco Bay, in Alviso district of San Jose.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Access by Alviso Slough off Coyote Creek. The channel is silted and most motor boats can only navigate at high water. The Bay here is shallow, with depths often under 1 metre at low water. Smaller dinghies and kayaks can pass at any tide.
Practical
Member-only moorings on the slough. No transient berths, no fuel, no commercial services on site. Nearest fuel and chandlery are 11 to 12 miles north-west at Westpoint Harbor and Sequoia Yacht Club.
History
Founded in 1888 as the South Bay Yachting Association, incorporated as the South Bay Yacht Club in 1896. The clubhouse, built in 1903 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, was moved to its current site between 1982 and 1985 during levee realignment.
