- Type
- Harbour
Marina at the eastern end of Ninigret Pond in Charlestown, Rhode Island, the largest salt pond in the state.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Entered from Block Island Sound through the Charlestown breachway, a rock-lined channel. A ledge in 6ft of water lies just off the southern entrance, and standing waves form when wind opposes tide. Inside, follow the marked channels east toward the marina, as the flats are very shallow.
Practical
Dockage and a launch ramp, open year-round. Transient berths by the night, week or month. Land and in-water winter storage with haul-out, shrink-wrapping and spring launch. Boat rentals available.
Ashore
The Charlestown breachway and its state campground sit a short run to the south. Ninigret National Wildlife Refuge borders the north shore of the pond, with walking trails on a former naval air station.
