Guide
Approach and anchoring
Anchorage area off the city front, with the sand bottom giving fair holding. It is sheltered from NW through N to NE but fully open to the south. The whole Pacific swell rolls in during a south-easterly, so the spot is tenable in settled conditions only and should be left before any southerly blow.
Practical
Santa Barbara Harbour lies 6.6 miles E with berths, fuel and chandlery. The Santa Barbara Yacht Club is 6.7 miles E.
History
Stearns Wharf, off the anchorage, was completed in 1872 by lumberman John Peck Stearns and was then the longest deep-water pier between Los Angeles and San Francisco.
