Approach and anchoring
Reach by the Saone from the south or the Doubs from the east. The confluence is well marked on VNF charts. Current can be noticeable on the Doubs after heavy rain. Freycinet gauge downstream on the Saone, commercial barges use the main channel. Mooring and slipway on the right bank of the Doubs just upstream of the confluence.
Practical
Concrete slipway for trailable craft, a short adjoining pontoon for brief stops. No water or power. Port La Confluence 200 m south on the Saone offers water, power and fuel. Village shops and two restaurants within 300 m.
Ashore
Eurovelo 6 cycle route runs along the Saone through the village. Confluence viewpoint at the meeting of the Doubs and Saone, 100 m from the slipway. Nature reserve of the Val de Saone floodplain starts immediately downstream, signposted walks along the dykes.
Story
Verdun-sur-le-Doubs is known in French gastronomy for la pauchouse, a freshwater fish stew made with Doubs and Saone fish and white Burgundy wine, celebrated each summer at the Fete de la Pauchouse.
