Approach and anchoring
Reached by the Canal du Midi, about 35 km south-east of Toulouse. Maximum draught 1,4 m on the canal reach, air draught limited to 3 m at the arched bridges. The seuil de Naurouze, summit of the canal at 189 m, is 3 km south-east.
Practical
Pontoon moorings along the canal bank. Water and electricity on the pontoon. Fuel pump available. Motorway A61 service area adjacent, with restaurant and shop.
Ashore
Musée et Jardins du Canal du Midi on site, dedicated to Pierre-Paul Riquet and the history of the canal. Obélisque de Riquet at Naurouze 2,5 km by foot or cycle along the towpath. Voie verte du Canal du Midi runs along the bank for hiking and cycling.
History
The Canal du Midi was built between 1666 and 1681 under Pierre-Paul Riquet, connecting the Garonne at Toulouse to the étang de Thau at Sète. It was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1996.
