Approach and anchoring
Reached via the Canal latéral à l'Oise between Janville and Chauny. Freycinet gauge, standard bridge clearance of about 3,50 m. No tidal constraint. Give way to commercial péniches on the canal.
Practical
Ten places along a wooden pontoon, water and power bollards. Overnight fee paid at the machine or with the local association. Boulangerie and small shops at Pont-l'Évêque village 300 m away, larger supermarkets at Noyon about 3 km to the S.
Ashore
Noyon cathedral Notre-Dame, a 12th century early Gothic building where Charlemagne was crowned King of Neustria in 768 and Hugh Capet King of the Franks in 987, about 3 km from the halt. Birthplace museum of Jean Calvin in the same town.
History
Noyon was a royal coronation site in the early Middle Ages and an episcopal city until the French Revolution. The Canal latéral à l'Oise was opened in 1838 to bypass the unreliable navigation of the Oise upstream of Janville.
