River marina of 80 berths on the Oise in the centre of Compiegne, just upstream of the Aisne confluence.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
On the Oise at the Quai de la Republique, PK 97. No tides, river current moderate. VNF lock system upstream and downstream regulates levels. Approach from the through channel, visitors moor on the outer pontoon.
Practical
Open year-round, 2 ha basin with 80 berths and capacity for about 200 passing boats per season. Water and electricity at the pontoons. Railway station 400 m, all shops in the town centre within 500 m.
Ashore
Chateau de Compiegne and its park at 1 km, former imperial residence of Napoleon III. Musee national du chateau and Musee de la Figurine historique in town. Foret domaniale de Compiegne starts at the eastern edge of the city, 14 500 hectares with marked walking and cycling trails. Clairiere de l'Armistice, site of the 1918 armistice signing, at 7 km by road.
History
Compiegne was a Merovingian royal residence and kept royal ties through the centuries. The chateau was rebuilt under Louis XV and remodelled by Napoleon I and III. Joan of Arc was captured here in 1430 during the siege of the town.
