Inner bay on the Wilderness Waterway within Everglades National Park, Florida, about 18 miles north of Flamingo via Whitewater Bay.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Reached from Flamingo by way of Whitewater Bay and the Joe River, or southbound on the Wilderness Waterway. The route is shallow and best suited to shoal-draught boats, kayaks and canoes. The Joe River passage gives some shelter from the wind and chop that build on open Whitewater Bay.
Practical
Mud bottom, shelter only from the south-east, otherwise exposed. No facilities. The Flamingo marina and visitor centre lie 15.5 miles to the south-east and are the nearest source of fuel and supplies. A wilderness permit is required for overnight stays in the park.
Story
The Wilderness Waterway runs 99 miles between Flamingo and Everglades City; most paddlers take at least eight days to complete it.
