Approach and anchoring
Sand and weed bottom, holding generally fair. Open to easterly and westerly winds, partial shelter from the north. Giffaumont-Champaubert port lies 1.7 NM W, Sainte-Marie-du-Lac port 3.7 NM NW.
Practical
No services at the anchorage itself. Fuel, water and ramps at Giffaumont port. Lake regulated by EPTB Seine Grands Lacs, water level varies strongly between spring high and autumn drawdown.
Ashore
Giffaumont port-village with shops and restaurants 1.7 NM W. Ferme aux Grues bird observation site on the southern shore, common crane migration peaks in late October with over 100 000 birds recorded. Cycle path around the lake is 38 km long.
History
The lake was filled in 1974 to regulate the Marne upstream of Paris after the 1910 flood. Three villages, Champaubert, Chantecoq and Nuisement, were submerged. The surviving church of Champaubert still stands on a small island at the northern end.
