Canal stop on the Canal des Vosges in Lorraine, Meurthe-et-Moselle, roughly halfway between Nancy and Épinal.

Guide

Approach and anchoring

Inland waterway only. Reached from the north via the Embranchement de Nancy junction, from the south via the flight of locks up from Fontenoy. Airdraught under bridges 3.50 m at normal level, lock chambers 38.50 m by 5.20 m Freycinet gauge. Watch a low pier and a submerged cable reported off the mooring pontoon.

Practical

Halte nautique managed by the commune, about ten berths, alongside on bollards and rings. Water point and electricity on the quay. Bread and small grocery in the village at 300 m. No fuel on site, nearest diesel at Nancy or Épinal.

Ashore

Forêt de Haye and the Moselle towpath run past the stop, usable on foot or by bike. EuroVelo 5 Via Romea Francigena shares the towpath here, linking Nancy 13 km to the north and Épinal 50 km to the south. Château de Messein and its park lie 2 km downstream on the opposite bank.

History

The junction branch of the Canal des Vosges between Richardménil and Messein, 18 km and 18 locks, replaced an older reach of the Moselle and was opened on 27 March 2004.
