Approach and anchoring
Approach from seaward with the Bec de l'Aigle cliff to the east as a landmark. Anchoring is banned inside the zone to protect seagrass beds. Use the Vieux Port 0.2 nm to the west or the Nouveau Port 0.2 nm to the north for overnight stays.
Practical
No berthing in the zone itself. Water available at the two adjacent harbours. All services and shops in town within 10 minutes on foot from either port.
Ashore
Parc du Mugel 1.5 km south-east, a botanical garden under the Bec de l'Aigle with Mediterranean flora. The Eden Theatre in town is the oldest working cinema in the world, opened in 1889. Daily market on place Évariste Gras.
History
La Ciotat shipyards built merchant ships from 1836 and the Messageries Maritimes liners through the 20th century. The Lumière brothers filmed L'Arrivée d'un train en gare de La Ciotat at the local station in 1895.
