Approach and anchoring
Reached via the Canal du Centre between lock 24 at Chagny and lock 25. Locks on this canal are automated with telecommand, operated by VNF. Maximum air draught 3.50 m, maximum draught 1.80 m. Speed limit 6 km/h in the pound.
Practical
Pontoon with water and shore power. Base for canal boat hire, operated under the Snaily brand. Chagny town centre at 600 m with supermarket, bakery, and SNCF station on the Dijon to Lyon line.
Ashore
Restaurant Lameloise at 700 m, three Michelin stars since 1979. Cote Chalonnaise wine villages at 8 to 15 km including Rully, Mercurey and Givry, all AOC. Voie verte from Chagny to Cluny follows the old Paray-le-Monial railway for 44 km of traffic free cycling.
History
The Canal du Centre was completed in 1793 to link the Loire at Digoin to the Saone at Chalon-sur-Saone, 114 km long with 61 locks. It carried coal from the Montceau-les-Mines basin until rail took over after 1860.
