Approach and anchoring

Sequim Bay is entered through a narrow channel behind a long gravel spit, which gives good all-round shelter once inside. The anchorage holds on a weed bottom, so set the anchor with care. John Wayne Marina lies about 0.3 nautical miles to the north-east, with Port Townsend Boat Haven roughly 11 nautical miles east.

Practical

Fresh water is available ashore. John Wayne Marina, a short distance away, has a store, restaurant and visitor moorage. Full park facilities are found at nearby Sequim Bay State Park.

Ashore

The marina and adjoining park were given to the public from John Wayne's estate, the land having been part of the actor's holdings. Picnic areas and a shoreside path run along the point. Sequim Bay State Park, with woodland trails, lies close by.

History

The marina land was a gift from the family of the film actor John Wayne, who kept a vessel in the bay and whose name the marina and park now carry.
