Approach and anchoring
Approach from the Seine estuary following the Chenal de Rouen. Entry through the sea lock that opens around 2 hours before and after local high water. VHF channel 17 for the harbour office. Strong cross-currents at the lock gate on the flood, keep clear of commercial traffic using the Bassin Carnot.
Practical
Berths on pontoons along the quay walls. Water and electricity on the pontoons. Showers and toilets at the capitainerie shared with the Vieux-Bassin. Diesel at the fuel berth near the lock. All shops, bakeries and restaurants within 300 m in the old town.
Ashore
Vieux-Bassin with the Lieutenance and Sainte-Catherine church, 200 m on foot. Musée Eugène Boudin at 400 m. Côte de Grâce viewpoint and chapel at 1,5 km by the footpath climbing north of the town. Saturday morning market on place Sainte-Catherine.
History
Honfleur was the port from which Samuel de Champlain sailed in 1608 to found Québec. The Vieux-Bassin was dug between 1668 and 1684 under Colbert. The Bassin de l'Est was added in the 19th century with the expansion of the outer harbour works.
Story
The painter Eugène Boudin was born in Honfleur in 1824. His work on the estuary skies is credited by Claude Monet as the trigger of his own vocation.
