River stop of 22 berths on the canalised Mayenne at Entrammes, south of Laval in Pays de la Loire.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Approach from the Mayenne downstream of Laval. The reach passes through lock 25 of Persigand immediately upstream and lock 26 of Bonne at Entrammes itself. Air draught cleared for standard river cruisers, maximum beam limited by the locks at around 5 metres. Navigation managed by the Mayenne departmental service, which also handles lock keepers in season.
Practical
Pontoon with 22 berths along the left bank. Water and electricity on the pontoon. Rubbish disposal at the head of the pontoon. No fuel on site, nearest diesel by road at Laval. Bakery and small grocery in the village of Entrammes around 600 m from the quay.
Ashore
Gallo-Roman thermal baths of Entrammes, one of the best preserved in western France, are 700 m from the pontoon. Trappist abbey of Port-du-Salut at 1,5 km upstream on the right bank, birthplace of the Port-Salut cheese recipe. Towpath converted into a greenway for cycling and walking along both banks.
History
The Mayenne river was canalised between 1838 and 1863 with 39 locks between Laval and the junction with the Maine. The Entrammes lock is typical of this phase, with hand-operated gates still maintained by the departmental council since the waterway was transferred from the State in 2005.
