Approach and anchoring
Accessed from the Saône between PK 216 and PK 217, downstream of the Auxonne road bridge. Max draught around 1.2 m. No lock on this stretch, current moderate outside flood periods.
Practical
Around 10 places along the quay, water and electricity on the pontoon. Shops, bakery and supermarket within 500 m in the town centre.
Ashore
Fortifications redesigned by Vauban in the 17th century around the old town, 400 m from the quay. Statue of Napoleon Bonaparte on place d'Armes, where he served as a young artillery officer in 1788. Port Royal, the main marina, lies 400 m upstream.
History
Auxonne was a fortified border town between the Duchy of Burgundy and the Kingdom of France until 1678. Napoleon Bonaparte was garrisoned at the artillery school here from 1788 to 1791.
