Approach and anchoring

Reached by the canalised Sambre. Mud and weed bottom, fully sheltered inside the canal reach. Lock operations follow VNF schedules, with reduced hours in winter. Air draught limited by the bridges of the Sambre à l'Oise canal.

Practical

Small buoy and quay halt with limited berths. Basic water point. No fuel. Town centre of Landrecies within a short walk for bakery, supermarket and restaurants.

Ashore

Landrecies sits on the edge of the Parc naturel régional de l'Avesnois, with walking and cycling paths along the Sambre towpath. The Forêt de Mormal, one of the largest state forests in northern France, lies immediately south of the town.

History

Landrecies was a fortified town of the Spanish Netherlands, taken and refortified by Vauban after 1655. The surrounding bocage was heavily fought over in August 1914 during the retreat from Mons.
