Garibaldi Marina
- Type
- Harbour
Marina at the north end of Tillamook Bay, on the Oregon coast, used by recreational crabbers, sport fishermen, and the local commercial fleet.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Tillamook Bay is reached from the Pacific over one of the most exposed bars on the Oregon coast. A blue warning sign with amber flashing lights at the Garibaldi launch indicates bar restrictions, AM 1610 broadcasts the conditions. Call Coast Guard Station Tillamook on 503 322 3531 or VHF 16 before crossing.
Practical
Moorage, fuel berth, showers, and Wi-Fi at 302 Mooring Basin Road. Crab pot and boat rentals, bait, tackle, and outdoor clothing in the on-site shop. Cooked crab on demand. Four-lane paved launch ramp next door. Phone 503 322 3312.
Ashore
Garibaldi village adjoins the marina, with the Oregon Coast Scenic Railroad steam train running north along the bay to Rockaway Beach in season. Dungeness crab, lingcod, and rockfish are landed daily on the marina docks.
Story
The 2003 capsizing of the small passenger vessel Taki-Tooo on the Tillamook bar, investigated by the NTSB, led to tightened bar restriction rules still in force today.
