Guide

Approach and anchoring

Reached off Albemarle Sound through Edenton Bay and into Pembroke Creek. Approach and dockside depths run about 6 to 8 feet, taking vessels up to 85 feet. VHF channel 9.

Practical

15 transient berths on fixed pontoons. Fuel berth with petrol and diesel, pump-out and a boat ramp. Private showers, heads and laundry. Off-site lift and land storage are available.

Ashore

The historic centre of Edenton is a few minutes from the marina. A trolley tour passes Victorian houses, revolutionary-war cannon and the 1767 Chowan County Courthouse, the oldest courthouse still in use in the United States.

History

Edenton was settled around 1660 and served as the first colonial capital of North Carolina from 1722 to 1743. In 1774, fifty-one women led by Penelope Barker signed a boycott of British tea, an act remembered as the Edenton Tea Party.
