Large private marina on the Intracoastal Waterway at Freeport, Texas, near the Surfside Beach bridge on Highway 332.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Reached from the Gulf via the Freeport jetties and the Old Brazos River, then north into the ICW. The marina basin is on the north side of the canal, east of the Highway 332 bridge. Air draught at the bridge limits taller rigs. Strong tidal flow and commercial traffic on the canal need allowing for.
Practical
About 314 wet berths over 25 acres, with more than 200 covered. Vessels up to 100 feet, fixed and floating pontoons, eight transient berths. Fuel berth with petrol and diesel ValvTect, pump-out, heads and showers with 24-hour access, laundry. Boatyard with service bays and a 70-ton travel lift. Bait and tackle shop, restaurant and bar, pools and tennis courts. Phone 979-233-2101.
Ashore
Surfside Beach is 1 km south across the canal bridge, with miles of open Gulf sand. Bryan Beach and the Freeport Wetlands lie west of town, on the route of the Audubon Christmas Bird Count. Brazoria National Wildlife Refuge is 25 km north for inland birdwatching.
