Approach and anchoring

Sheltered from N, NE, E and SE. Exposed to the libeccio, the W/SW wind that reinforces against the cliffs and sends strong gusts down into the anchorage. Approach from the south along the base of the 60 m high cliffs, clear of the Grain de Sable stack. VHF 9 for the port of Bonifacio if shelter is needed.

Practical

Mouillage forain only. Port de Bonifacio 0.8 NM NW inside the fjord-like calanque, and the Commercial Marina 0.9 NM NW, both with water, diesel and all provisions in the haute ville above the cliffs.

Ashore

Bonifacio haute ville perches on a limestone promontory, founded in 828 by Marquis Boniface II of Tuscany. Escalier du Roi d'Aragon, 187 steps cut into the cliff reportedly in a single night in 1420. Bastion de l'Étendard houses the town history museum. Bouches de Bonifacio marine park extends south towards Cavallo and Lavezzi.
