Approach and anchoring

Reach the river from the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway through Bon Secour Bay, then up a dredged channel running about 3.9 miles to the river. The channel is shallow and narrow at the river entrance, so vessels drawing 1.5 metres or more should take it slowly and be ready to back down.

Practical

Well-sheltered anchorage. Small-craft facilities on the east side of the South Fork Channel and at the town of Bon Secour can supply berths, petrol, diesel, water, ice and engine repairs. Romar Marina lies 8.5 miles east and Zeke's Marina 8.8 miles east.

Ashore

The river runs alongside Bon Secour National Wildlife Refuge, a 7,157-acre reserve of barrier coastal habitat on the Fort Morgan Peninsula with marked trails and nesting beaches for sea turtles.
