Anchorage on Dog River off the western shore of Mobile Bay, Alabama, just inside the river mouth.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Enter from Mobile Bay into the lower Dog River and work upstream. The river is brackish, with charted depths of roughly 9 to 12 ft in the main channel and as little as 1 to 2 ft over the wetland margins at mid-tide. Keep clear of the shoal edges and hold to the deeper water.
Practical
Mud bottom, good holding for a lunch stop or an overnight in settled weather. Turner Marine lies 1.2 nm to the north-east for fuel, repairs and a travel lift. Dauphin Island Marina is 17.6 nm to the south near the Intracoastal Waterway.
