Approach and anchoring

Reached from the Canal du Rhone a Sete, managed by VNF. Maximum draught 0.6 m, suitable for river cruisers and barges only. The Ecluse de Beaucaire lies 1 NM to the N, giving access to the Rhone. Port de Vallabregues lies 3.2 NM further N on the Rhone.

Practical

Town quay with 40 berths, water and electricity on pontoons. Shops, bakery and supermarket within walking distance in Beaucaire town centre.

Ashore

Chateau de Beaucaire, a 13th century royal fortress, stands above the port and is open to visitors. The medieval old town with arcaded streets lies just back from the quay. Tarascon and its castle are reachable on foot across the Pont de Beaucaire, about 800 m over the Rhone.

History

Beaucaire hosted the Foire de la Madeleine, one of the largest annual trade fairs in medieval Europe, granted its charter by Raymond VI of Toulouse in 1217 and held every July until the 19th century.
