Town marina of 280 berths on the Esterel coast of the French Riviera, between Cannes and Saint-Tropez.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Approach from the south across the Gulf of Fréjus. Entrance between lit pier heads, immediately below the neo-Byzantine Notre-Dame de la Victoire basilica which serves as a landmark. Maximum draught 4 m. Mistral gusts along the Esterel coast, swell from the SE builds quickly. VHF 12 for the harbour office.
Practical
280 berths with a fuel station on the pontoon, water and electricity on the pontoons, sanitary blocks with showers now dated. Visitor berths are few, so call ahead; those along the town quay can be noisy in summer from the bars and a nightclub, ask for a quieter one. Cafés and restaurants line the quay, and Monoprix delivers provisions from 50 euros. Train station Saint-Raphaël-Valescure 200 m away with direct trains to Nice and Marseille. Santa Lucia marina lies 0.9 NM SE and Port-Fréjus 0.7 NM W.
Ashore
Town beaches run immediately east of the port for about 1 km. Archaeological museum of Saint-Raphaël, 300 m from the quay, holds Roman amphorae recovered from local wrecks. Esterel red-rock massif starts 3 km east with signalled walking trails. Cap Dramont and the Île d'Or visible 4 NM east.
History
Napoleon landed at Saint-Raphaël on 9 October 1799 on return from the Egyptian campaign, and embarked from the same shore for Elba on 28 April 1814. A pink granite pyramid on the waterfront marks the second event.
