Anchorage along Uganik Passage, the channel between Uganik Island and the mainland of Kodiak Island, Alaska.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Uganik Passage runs between Uganik Island and the Kodiak shore, off the wider Uganik Bay system. The channel is unmarked. Anchor over sand close to the shore, tucked in for shelter from winds between north-east and south-east. Larsen Harbor lies 28 miles to the south-west.
Practical
No facilities. Sand bottom with reasonable holding. The anchorage is exposed from the north-west through to the south-west, so it suits a stop in settled weather or with the wind in the eastern sector.
Ashore
Both Uganik Island and the surrounding shore lie within Kodiak National Wildlife Refuge. Sitka spruce covers the lowlands and the area is home to brown bears, river otters and red fox.
