Approach and anchoring

From the sea, enter the Rance at Saint-Malo, pass the tidal dam and follow the river 15 NM south to the Châtelier lock at La Vicomté-sur-Rance, then continue 3 NM upstream to Taden. Depth on this reach above the lock is limited to about 1.5 m. Mooring is along a slipway with rafting when busy, though space is often tight with laid-up boats.

Practical

Berthing is free for up to 72 hours, with free electricity for a few hours and no sanitary facilities; water is available in the village. Dinan port at 1.7 NM south-west offers 100 berths including 30 for visitors, and covers boats up to 25 m long and 1.60 m draught. Port Lyvet at 0.7 NM north has 258 berths and two restaurants.

Ashore

Plaine de Taden, a riverside meadow with marked paths along the Rance, starts at the quay. GR 34 coastal path follows the right bank south to Dinan, around 3 km on foot. Medieval ramparts and old town of Dinan at 2 km, with half-timbered houses of the Rue du Jerzual descending to the port.

History

Taden developed as a riverside hamlet linked to the river traffic between Dinan and Saint-Malo, active from the Middle Ages until the railway replaced barge freight in the late 19th century.
