Sierck-les-Bains Fluviale
- Type
- Harbour
River pontoon on the Moselle in Sierck-les-Bains, north-east Moselle department, close to the German and Luxembourg borders.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
On the canalised Moselle between locks Apach and Koenigsmacker. Pontoon on the left bank downstream of the road bridge, a fixed U-shaped dock with at least 2 m alongside. Commercial traffic has priority on the Moselle CEMT Class Vb waterway.
Practical
Free short-stay pontoon with water and shore power posts managed by the commune, though these have been found switched off. A gate off the pontoon can be locked, cutting access to the town, so some crews moor instead to the bollards on the concrete bank just in front and walk up from there. A few restaurants, a bakery and a small supermarket within 300 m in the old town.
Ashore
Chateau des Ducs de Lorraine above the town, 11th to 15th century fortress open to visitors, 500 m from the pontoon on foot. Chapelle de Marienfloss at Sierck, a former 14th century priory. Schengen and the tripoint France-Germany-Luxembourg are 4 km downstream.
History
Sierck was a fortified residence of the Dukes of Lorraine from the 11th century. The town held a strategic position on the Moselle crossing between Lorraine, the Holy Roman Empire and the County of Luxembourg.
