Approach and anchoring
Approach from the south, clear of the Lion de Mer and Lion de Terre rocks off Saint-Raphaël. Entrance between two jetties with red and green lights. Exposed to easterly swell when the levante blows. VHF 9. Maximum draught 4 m at the deepest berths.
Practical
1500 berths in two basins, with water and electricity at pontoons. The northern basin has restaurants that put on evening concerts, while the southern basin is quieter but its sanitary block is a long walk from the visitor berths. Laundry on site and a small Uship chandlery nearby, useful for a quick repair. Fuel station on site. Capitainerie staffed year-round. Shops, bakeries and restaurants around the port basin. Saint-Raphaël TGV station at 1.5 km with direct trains to Paris and Marseille.
Ashore
The centre of Saint-Raphaël and its old port lie about 1.5 km on foot, and the walk carries on to Port Fréjus and the Roman centre of Fréjus, 2.5 km further, with its medieval church, cloister and forum. Sentier du littoral east from the marina towards Boulouris and Agay, cutting through the red porphyry of the Esterel. Plage du Veillat sand beach at 1.2 km west. Musée archéologique of Saint-Raphaël at 1.3 km, with amphorae from local Roman wrecks.
History
Santa Lucia was built in the 1980s to extend the pleasure capacity of Saint-Raphaël beyond the old fishing harbour. The town itself grew as a seaside resort after the railway reached the coast in 1863, attracting Gounod, Maupassant and Alphonse Karr.
