Guide
Approach and anchoring
Open approach from the east. Anchoring is prohibited in the 300 metre strip off the Pesquiers beach, which the local police enforce, so bring up nearer the port. The bottom is mixed sand, mud, weed and rock with poor underwater visibility, so the sand is hard to see and holding is variable; lay extra chain and a trip line against rocks and faults that can trap the anchor. Sheltered from the W, SW and NW, fully exposed to the easterly swell and untenable in an east wind, and to the mistral funnelling over the low tombolo. Wash from the Porquerolles shuttles and marina traffic runs heavy through the day.
Practical
A convenient anchorage for the port, handy for fuel, crew changes, errands and provisioning, with chandleries, a supermarket and a pharmacy close, and the dinghy can be left in the harbour on request. The marina charges about 30 euros to fill with water. Port Saint-Pierre de Hyères lies 0.4 nm to the north; Port de La Capte 0.6 nm to the SW often lies a few knots calmer in the mistral and gives shelter when the wind shifts to the east.
