The lighthouse of Pointe du Vieux-Fort, built in 1953 and 1954 and lit in 1955, stands on the point. The fishermen's wives' embroidery, known in mainland France since the 1960s, is still worked by a local association.
History
The French built a fort here around 1635 to 1640, first called Fort Royal, then Vieux Fort or fort L'Olive after Charles Liénard de L'Olive, first head of the colony. The Anse Dupuy site, once occupied by the Kalinago, later became the fishing port.
