Approach and anchoring

Mixed sand and rock bottom, with about 20 visitor buoys laid in summer by the island users association AUMIG. Sheltered from W, SW, S and SE, open to the N where the swell rolls in. Rocks line the E and W sides and some buoys sit low and hard to spot, so approach on the middle axis at 180 degrees and buoy the anchor. A night land breeze off the mainland can raise an awkward chop. Port-Tudy 0.8 NM W is the only all-weather refuge on the island.

Practical

No services at the cove. Water, fuel and shops at Port-Tudy in the main village of Groix.

Ashore

Plage des Sables Rouges 400 metres W by the coastal path, named for its garnet-rich sand. Sentier côtier GR 34 circling the island, 25 km full loop. Écomusée de Groix in the village, 1.5 km from the cove, focused on the tuna fishing fleet that made Port-Tudy France's leading tuna port in the 1920s.
