Lock-gated basin of 400 berths at the mouth of the Touques estuary, between Deauville and Trouville in Normandy.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Approach the Touques estuary on a rising tide, the bar dries at low water. The buoyed channel between Trouville on the east bank and Deauville on the west carries a shoaling patch, so study the approach and enter by daylight the first time. There are two gated basins, the outer Port Deauville and the more central Bassin Morny, both opening for roughly three hours either side of high water. No waiting pontoon lies at the entrance, so keep a good margin as the gate can close before the posted time. Inside Bassin Morny a lift bridge opens at intervals of about 25 minutes. Maximum draught 2.8 m, VHF 9 before approach.
Practical
400 berths with water and electricity on pontoons, about 50 euros a night. Visitor pontoon signposted by the harbour office; the showers and laundry are on the far side of the basin, a walk around from the visitor pontoon. Boatyard and crane at the basin. Shops and restaurants of Deauville within 300 m.
Ashore
Les Planches boardwalk and the sandy beach run north of the basin at 300 m. Casino Barriere at 400 m on rue Edmond Blanc. Racecourse of La Touques and polo grounds at 1.5 km. Trouville fish market on the opposite bank at 500 m by the passerelle. Honfleur is about 35 minutes away on bus 111, fare around 2.70 euros.
History
Deauville was developed from 1860 by the Duc de Morny as a seaside resort for Parisian high society, accessible by rail from Paris in less than three hours. The American Film Festival has been held here every September since 1975.
